Gyroscope Test

Read live gyroscope rotation-rate values where your device and browser expose them, with a simple motion graph.

Privacy: Rotation samples are processed in this tab. No motion data is uploaded or stored.

Most desktops do not expose a gyroscope. On mobile, use HTTPS and grant motion permission. Small drift and noise are normal for consumer sensors.

How to use this tool

  1. Click Enable gyroscope and grant motion permission if your browser asks.
  2. Rotate the device slowly around each axis and watch the x, y, and z values.
  3. Observe the magnitude graph while the device is still and moving.
  4. Click Stop to remove the listeners and end sensor access.

Technical explanation

The page prefers the Generic Sensor API Gyroscope constructor. Where that is unavailable it falls back to DeviceMotionEvent.rotationRate, which reports degrees per second around the alpha, beta, and gamma axes. Values are smoothed slightly for readability.

A desktop or a device without a gyroscope will not produce rotation data. iOS requires an explicit motion permission request from a user gesture. Drift and noise are normal for consumer sensors and are not proof of a hardware fault.

Troubleshooting

No gyroscope data appears

Most laptops have no gyroscope. Use a phone or tablet and serve the page over HTTPS.

The permission prompt does not appear

On iOS the request must follow a direct tap. Reload and press the button again.

Values drift while the device is still

Sensor bias and temperature changes cause small drift. This is normal and is corrected by sensor fusion in many apps.

Only some axes change

Rotate around each axis deliberately. A device may not expose all axes equally depending on orientation and browser.
