Stylus and Pen Test

Draw with a stylus, inspect pressure and tilt where available, and compare pen input with mouse input.

Pressure and tilt are only reported when the pen, digitiser and browser support them. A mouse always reports limited pressure information.

Technical explanation

Pointer Events expose pointerType, pressure, tiltX, tiltY, and coordinates. Pen pressure is normalized from 0 to 1 and may be simulated by some browsers when the hardware does not report it.

A browser cannot read the pen’s internal calibration or button layout. Hover, barrel buttons, and eraser detection depend on the operating system and browser implementation.

Troubleshooting

Pressure stays the same

Your device or browser may not expose pressure. Check whether the pen supports pressure in another drawing app.

Pen is treated as a mouse

Some browsers or remote-desktop sessions lose pen metadata. Try a local browser session.

No tilt values

Tilt requires hardware and browser support and is not available on all tablets.

Erase mode is missing

Eraser detection depends on the pen and operating system. Use the eraser mode button if pressure is not exposed.
